Two Heads Are Better Than One. Six Are Even Better
A family owned Buffalo company combines a solid business foundation, teamwork, and innovation for the past 100 years.
The Conway Center for Family Business states “Family firms comprise 80 to 90 percent of all business enterprises in North America, account for 64 percent of U.S. gross domestic product, and account for 78 percent of all new job creation.”
Working for Lincoln Archives, the first family owned company I’ve worked for, I was very quickly able to see the impactful differences that give way to making the statistics described above reign true. By being a part of a larger group of businesses, The Lincoln Family of Companies, Lincoln Archives and members of the Lincoln Archives team are able to reap the benefits of being a part of a family-owned business. Through being grounded upon a solid business foundation, teamwork, and constantly innovating, the Lincoln Family of Companies has been able to operate since 1914.
Below is a list of how a solid business foundation, teamwork, and innovation have specifically enabled the business to operate for more than 100 years:
• Solid Business Foundation: One of the many aspects enabling the continued success of the company is the solid business foundation created by John Palisano. Creating Lincoln Storage & Carting Company of Buffalo, Inc. with one horse and one wagon in a stable on Niagara Street in Buffalo NY, Mr. Palisano expanded on the simple idea of helping people move things. This notion, currently carried out by three of his sons-now each a president of a company in the Lincoln Family of Companies-serves as the backbone for the companies preceding.
• Teamwork: Through meetings between presidents (commonly referred to as weekly family meeting), promoting services from other companies to existing clients, to attending events together, the companies a part of the Lincoln Family of Companies partner together with the goal of overall success for the Family company. From commercial moving, to international and domestic warehousing and distributing , to medical waste disposal, to self -storage, to logistics , the Lincoln Family of Companies works together to provide specialized services to clients.
• Innovation: By beginning with one horse and stable to the creation of six successful companies, innovation has always been at the core of the business. Though the creation of Biosan Disposal in 2015, becoming a tenant in The Thomas R. Beecher, Jr. Innovation Center in Downtown Buffalo, and using innovative technologies within all six companies, this notion allows companies to not only meet but the current needs of clients, but also future needs.
Many members of the Lincoln Family of Companies, including myself, have faith that the aspects of having a solid business foundation, working as a team, and constantly innovating, which has enabled success for the past 100 years, will take the Lincoln Family of Companies into the next 100 years and more.
